First Christian Reformed Church officially opened on March 19, 1857. This year, with the Christian Reformed denomination, we celebrate 150 years.
First Church is one of the three founding congregations that formed the denomination which is now known as the Christian Reformed Church in North America.
First Church was established in March of 1857 and our first two building were located in downtown Grand Rapids. The cornerstone for our present facility was laid on October 7, 1911. Since then, First Church has undergone significant building enhancements in 1960, 1967, 1991 and is currently making multiple ministry related facility upgrades.
In addition to its role in founding our denomination, this congregation formed six daughter churches in Grand Rapids. First Church also played a significant role in the establishment of Calvin College and Seminary.
We praise God for his faithfulness to this church in the past and are excited about his plans for our future. We trust God will continue to use his people at First Church to build his kingdom, both near and far.
